Community Wealth Building Wednesdays — Building Demand Side through Construction Projects
June 9, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am PDT
A new building is only one kind of community capital created when a construction project comes to town. What if we leveraged the significant spending that comes with new builds to create cultural, social, human, and economic capital in our communities at the same time? Leading-edge construction companies and social enterprises are already partnering to do so in communities across the country. Social Procurement and Community Benefit Agreements (CBAs) are two practices that bring the potential community wealth and capital that lies just beneath the surface in every community into reality.
Join us to hear from those who are leading the way. We’ll hear how they baked social value into their projects from the beginning and what it takes to make it work. We’ll hear stories about the difference made in people’s lives and the lives of communities. You will have the opportunity to meet our panelists and other participants while exploring the possibilities on your own horizon and how to move in that direction.
Whether you are in the construction industry or not, this webinar will illuminate how build projects can be catalysts for new opportunities that might not be immediately obvious for municipalities, local and social enterprises, and community members.
Community wealth and community capital is being created throughout Ontario via Social Procurement. Buy Social Canada has partnered with the Ontario Nonprofit Network, Canadian CED Network, Ontario Trillium Foundation and AnchorTO to invite you to a webinar series designed to strengthen and connect the social procurement and social enterprise ecosystems across Ontario.
This webinar is third in the 5-part series and will explore building the demand side of social procurement through construction and infrastructure projects.
